Houston Area Valentine’s Day Date Ideas

Guaranteed Giddy is dedicated to YOUR happiness, so of course I have a few lovey dovey suggestions for your Valentine’s Day shenanigans that DO NOT include a pre fixe menu.  Do something a lil’ different this go ’round!  Make your gift an experience instead of a material item, your memories will last longer than a stuffed teddy bear!  All of the following adventurous date ideas are giddy approved.

For the Pampered

What: Massage Class for Couples
When: Friday, February 12th, 7-9pm
Where: Wild Spirit Yoga Studio in Tomball
Why: Everyone loves a massage (if you don’t, I DO NOT understand you!), but who really knows how to give a great one?  The host, Stacy Ollinger, is a total wellness guru and will teach you how to give a relaxing back massage to your partner by demonstrating massage techniques.  The yoga studio is darling, located in Old Town Tomball in a 1920’s house redesigned for all yogi purposes.  This night promises to be educational, relaxing and an all around blast!

For the Foodie

What: Cooking Classes
When: Ongoing
Where: Sur La Table Houston locations: River Oaks, City Centre, Sugarland & Friendswood
Why: I love attending cooking classes!  You learn new techniques and actually eat the delicious food you prepare.  I’ve done classes at the River Oaks and City Centre Sur La Tables and recommend them whole heartedly to any home chefs (or aspiring).  There are many classes to choose from: Romance in Italy, Valentine’s Day Macarons, Best of New Orleans and more.  Sign up fast, these classes fill up quickly.  If you can’t get into one that suits your style right away you could always purchase a gift card specifically for a cooking class too!  Did I mention these are all BYOB?!

For the Cinephile

What: Midnight Showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show
When: Saturday, February 13th, 11:59pm
Where: River Oaks Theater in River Oaks (duh)
Why:  This is a flavorful dose of good ol’ fashioned fun.  I’ve gone a couple of times and have always had a fabulous time.  Tips for making the most of this late night movie:
-Arrive early, maybe hit up a nearby bar (Local Pour) beforehand, there will be a line for admission!
-On that same note, buy your tickets online or at the theater prior to arrival as well.
-Dress the part,  you can even come costumed like your favorite character, you won’t be the only one!
-Buy the participation pack, it’s only $5 and you will feel left out if you can’t throw toilet paper in the air at the appropriate time!

For the Curious

What: Houston Burlesque Fest
When: Saturday, February 6th, 8pm
Where: House of Blues Houston in Downtown
Why: Mr. Giddy and I just saw the Ruby Review Burlesque Show on New Year’s Eve, it was such a fun night, full of surprises!  We laughed so hard, the emcee was a riot and the performers were entertaining and honestly, very classy.  I had no idea what to expect and couldn’t stop telling my friends about our experience over the following week.

For the Creative

What: Art Gazing at MFAH
When: Anytime during V-Day Week
Where: Museum of Fine Arts Houston in the Museum District (again, duh)
Why: Art is forever inspiring, and may be a little different fare for your average date night.  There are always a healthy selection of exhibitions showcased at the sprawling MFAH.  On Thursdays (which happens to be the free general admission day) the museum is open until 9pm, weekends the art gazing is up for grabs until 7pm.  I vote for putting together a simple cheese board (learn how to here) and sipping wine at home and then heading out for some culture!

For the Sporty

What: Houston Roller Derby
When: Saturday, February 20th, 7pm
Where: Revention Music Center in Downtown
Why: The derby is a site to be seen!  There isn’t a bad seat in the house at Revention, you’ll see more action than expected with these bad ass chicks rolling and elbowing ’til it hurts.  I went to a bout a few years ago and have been dying to go back!  This is a special night because it is the kickoff event for the 2016 season, check out the double header excitement the week after Valentine’s Day.  You can safely dine this evening as well without a lame pre fixe menu!  My favorite downtown eateries are Spindletop, The Grove, and Guadalajara.

Whoever you spend V-Day with I hope you enjoy your celebration.  Even though it’s a silly made up holiday receiving heart shaped candy can absolutely bring a smile to your face.  Live it up, #thegiddylife style!

Comment with your heart day plans, will you be taking inspiration from this list of ideas?!
